Electrolysis hair removal is a method of removing individual hairs from the face or body. It involves inserting a fine probe into the pore from which the hair is emerging, then applying a small amount of electrical current and heat which is absorbed into the pigment in the hair. The heat/current travel down to the follicle, causing its destruction and thus prevent future hair growth. This process is repeated for each hair follicle that needs to be treated. However, it may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results since hair grows in different cycles. We need the hair to be in anagen stage when it is still fully attached and supported by the follicle. In catagen stage, as the hair starts to detach from the follicle, we may effect some damage but are unlikely to fully destroy it. Once in telogen stage, the hair is effectively beginning to shed and, while we will remove the hairs, they will return as the follicle is untouched.
Unlike other hair removal techniques like IPL/laser, waxing or shaving, electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method. It can be used on various areas of the body and face.
Weekly treatments mean hairs do not need to be fully regrown, and hair growth can be managed with shaving or depilatory creams. Hairs must not be plucked or waxed while having electrolysis treatments, to give us the best chance of hitting them at the right stage.
