Sometimes called advanced electrolysis, electrocautery is a safe method for removal of skin tags and facial thread veins.

A skin tag, or acrochordons, are harmless, soft growths on the skin, made of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels, surrounded by skin. They can vary in colour and in size from a few millimetres to up to 5 centimetres. They tend to be found in skin folds, where the skin rubs itself, such as the neck, groin, user the arms, etc. skin tags do not “need” to be removed, but they can be unsightly and uncomfortable if they catch on clothing, jewellery, etc. they used to be removed at the GP surgery but are now considered cosmetic so not usually something offered by the GP.  We can help, subject to a consultation to assess suitability, using electrical current and heat to cauterise and remove the tags.

Milia are small white or yellowish bumps, often appearing in groups around the eyes but they can appear anywhere on the body. Formed of excess keratin, a strong protein found in skin tissues, hair and nail cells they should never be squeezed, but can be safely removed with electrocautery, subject to consultation to ensure suitability.

Thread veins – the appearance of red veins and broken capillaries can be distressing. We can help with electrocautery, again subject to consultation to assess suitability. We pass a combination of heat and electrical current into the offending capillaries, cauterising them and causing them to collapse. Blood is re-routed and a clear complexion is left behind. There is some downtime: the treatment may initially cause a little swelling and redness and the treated veins will scan over. This all settles in a couple of days.
